Headstock backs had eight shallow divets routed in the wood, hidden underneath the tuning plates to accommodate the tuner protrusions.
Other 1967 Ric 4005 features: Cresting wave shaped headstock, Kluson riveted tuners with slothead screws, plexiglass truss rod cover with logo but no model name, dual truss rods, crushed pearloid full width triangle fret markers, 20 frets, glued in 5 piece neck with wide skunk stripe, checkered binding on body back, hollow body with sound hole, toaster shaped neck pickup, toaster shaped bridge pickup, white pickguard, clear plexiglass thumb rest, five heptagonal shaped knobs with silver tops, CTS potentiometers, molded blue capacitors, cloth and plastic combination wiring, 3 way pickup toggle switch, pots cavity marking, four saddle bridge, chrome bridge cover, chrome tailpiece with R logo, mono input jack plate, black or silver case with blue interior.
The letters on the chrome bridge plate determine the year and month of production. The digits indicate the number of production. Some examples of 1967 Rickenbacker serial numbers are:
