1966 RICKENBACKER 4005 BASS

In 1966 Rickenbacker introduced the hollowbody 4005 model. It featured the cresting wave shaped headstock, Kluson riveted tuners with Phillips head or slothead screws, plexiglass truss rod cover with logo but no model name, crushed pearloid full width triangle fret markers, 20 frets, glued in 5 piece neck with wide skunk stripe, checkered binding on back of body, (optiopnal 4005 WB model had solid white binding on both front and back of body), hollow body with sound hole, toaster shaped neck pickup, toaster shaped bridge pickup, white pickguard, clear plexiglass thumb rest, five heptagonal shaped black or silver top knobs, CTS potentiometers, molded blue capacitors, cloth wiring, 3 way pickup toggle switch, four saddle bridge, chrome bridge cover, chrome tailpiece with R logo, mono input jack plate, black or silver Tolex case with blue interior.

The letters on the chrome input jack determine the year and month of production. The digits indicate the number of production. Some examples of 1966 Rickenbacker serial numbers are:
