During 1975 the neck pickup moved slightly towards the bridge, which changed the routing of the pickguard. The Kluson tuners used both flathead and Phillips head screws. A black plastic shim was added under each tuner plate (as early as March). During the year the white or black plexiglass truss rod cover began transitioning to white or black plastic with raised logo letters. This transition started as early as April, and continued into December. However Plexiglass continued to be used on left handed model truss rod covers.

Other 1975 Ric 4001 features include cresting wave shaped headstock, dual truss rods, smaller triangle pearloid fret markers, neck through body design including skunk stripe, 20 frets or fretless option, white or black plastic binding, four pole neck pickup, four pole bridge pickup including cover and chrome surround, white or black pickguard, heptagonal shaped knobs with silver top and lettering, CTS potentiometers, orange, brown or yellow capacitors, plastic wiring in control cavity, ric-o-sound input jack plate, pots cavity marking, 3 way pickup toggle switch, chrome bridge assembly including mutes, black case with blue or orange interior.

The letters on the chrome input jack plate determine the year and month of production. The digits indicate the number of production. Some examples of 1975 Rickenbacker serial numbers are:
