1982 G1 Grabber characteristics: Small V shaped black headstock with silkscreened gold logo including the "i" dot connected to the "G" and open "o". open gear riveted tuners with Phillips head screws, serial number stamped into the back of headstock, "MADE IN U.S.A." stamp on back of headstock underneath the tuner plates, two screw plastic truss rod cover including the model name, pearloid dot fret markers, 4 bolt on five piece maple neck, Gibson name neck plate, single ply black pickguard with foil on underside, moveable black pickup including Gibson embossed logo, chrome bridge cover, single slot saddle metal plate bridge, two black speed knobs including numbers, CTS potentiometers, "brown drop" capacitor, input jack on pickguard, string through three piece maple or alder body, contoured black case with pink interior.

Gibson continued the eight digit serial number headstock dating scheme in 1982. Ex: YDDDYPPP- The first and fifth letter indicate year of production. The second, third and fourth letters indicate the day of production within the year. The sixth, seventh and eighth letters indicate the manufacturing plant: 001 to 499 shows production rank at the Kalamazoo factory and 500 to 999 shows production rank at the Nashville factory.
