The "International Custom Colors" series of Arctic White, Morocco Red, Monaco Yellow, Maui Blue, Capri Orange, Sahara Taupe, Cathay Ebony and Sienna Burst was available. During the year the thumb rest was discontinued.
During the year the 3 bolt F Series neck plate with tilt adjust and no serial number changed back to a four bolt F Series neck plate with no serial number.
Other 1981 Jazz bass characteristics: Smaller headstock decal logo including serial number beginning with an "E1" or a previous "S" year decal, applied under the finish. For more precise dating, cross reference the serial number with the instrument's neck butt stamp, pickup stamp and potentiometer codes.
